How to Pass a Kidney Stone with a Home Remedy

How to Pass a Kidney Stone with a Home Remedy

Avoid Expensive Medical Treatment with a Home Remedy

Kidney stones are said to be one of the most painful human experiences, second only to childbirth. If you see a doctor or go to the emergency room, they can also be painful financial experiences. Fortunately, this is not usually necessary. While kidney stones do sometimes require medical attention, using a kidney stone home remedies is often successful.
Kidney Stone Causes
If you have family members who have had a kidney stone or you have previously had one yourself, you are at high-risk. Men are also more likely than women to get kidney stones. Diet and exercise is often contributing factors. A lack of fluids, particularly water, can increase kidney stone build-up. A diet high in sodium and protein and low in calcium will also put you at greater risk. A lack of exercise increases your risk because limited activity causes bones to release additional calcium, which leads to kidney stone buildup.
Use a Kidney Stone Home Remedy
Getting rid of a kidney stone involves two processes: breaking and flushing. Breaking the kidney stone into smaller pieces will help it move easier, quicker and painlessly through your kidney and into your bladder. Liquid will stimulate your kidneys and bladder into action to flush out the kidney stone pieces. Here's how to break and flush the stone:
  1. Drink lots of water. But, not just any water. Tap water is full of sediments which can actually cause a kidney stone to increase in size. Distilled water is free of these sediments. The more distilled water you drink, the faster you can rid yourself of your kidney stone.
  2. Add lemon to your water. Lemon is high in citric acid, which is believed to help break-up calcium-based kidney stones. A few squirts of lemon or a few drops of lemon juice in each glass will help break up the stone.
  3. Exercise. This may sound crazy if you are wincing in pain with each movement. However, once the stone moves out of the kidney or breaks up into smaller pieces, pain usually subsides. When the pain goes away, try a little exercise. Exercise will speed up the flush process and will make you thirsty, helping you to drink even more water.
  4. Drink vegetable and fruit juices. In addition to as many glasses of water as you can possible pour down your throat, drink a few glasses of vegetable or fruit juice each day. These juices contain citrates which will aid in the breakup of the stones.
The Best Kidney Stone Remedy
The best kidney stone remedy is to prevent them from happening in the first place. Prevent kidney stones by drinking several tall glasses of water each day and increasing your intake of citric acid and fruit and vegetable juices. Regular exercise will also help. Basically, do everything you would normally do to break and flush a kidney stone, but in moderation. If you continue to suffer from kidney stones, you may need to more serious diet adjustments, such as cutting down on sugar. While reducing calcium may seem like a good idea, it has not been shown to actually prevent kidney stones. In fact, calcium may help bind oxelates in the intestinal track and prevent stones from forming in the kidneys.
When to See a Doctor
Trying a kidney Stone remedy at home is often successful, but that doesn't mean you should never go to a doctor for a kidney stone. Seeing a doctor when you have a kidney stone is never a bad idea and is important if your pain continues for more than a day or if you do not pass the stone within several days. It is also important to consult a doctor at least once if you have chronic kidney stones.
Even if you do see a doctor, using a kidney stone home remedy may help you pass the stone faster and with less pain.
