Will drinking ajwain water help after my delivery?

Will drinking ajwain water help after my delivery?

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that drinking ajwain water speeds up recovery after childbirth as often believed. Traditionally, ajwain or carom seeds are said to aid in digestion and lactation, as well as cleanse the uterus. So if you've just had a baby, your elders may recommend that you drink ajwain water - read our article on traditional drinks for breastfeeding mums

There is really no harm in drinking ajwain water, as long as that is not all you are having. If you do not like the taste of ajwain or feel that you tend to drink less than you would otherwise, take other drinks. Having enough fluid is essential for your recovery and breastmilk supply if you are breastfeeding. And contrary to what is often believed, there has been no harmful effects noted to date that are linked to drinking cool or room-temperature water after delivery.

Your body also needs the vital nutrients that a varied diet provides. Experts say that good nutrition and light exercise amidst plenty of rest will help you recover quickly after childbirth. So whether you drink ajwain water or not, make sure to eat well, get plenty of rest, and also get a bit of exercise.

And bear in mind that if you have prolonged indigestion or pain, it could be due to more serious issues like infections. So rather than solely drinking ajwain water or increasing the quantity you drink, it's best to see your doctor about it.
